TRON: Catalyst
TRON: Catalyst is an all-new story-driven, isometric action adventure game from Bithell Games, set in the immersive and diverse locations of the Arq Grid introduced in TRON: Identity.
Playing as Exo, a courier working in this grid’s capital city, the player’s life is turned upside down when a mysterious package explodes, granting you powers beyond any program’s normal function.
I was brought on board Tron: Catalyst immediately in the wake of wrapping A Highland Song, working as one of two level design hires to build out the game’s world – handling geometry blockout, logic scripting, mission flow and encounter design.
I was directly responsible for the ground-up design, construction, logic and cleanup of The Outlands; a very unique location in the game’s conception, both as a climactic chapter and as an “organic” outdoors landscape in a game of corridors and hard corners. I worked closely with the art and code teams to take Mike Bithell’s initial script outline for the level and turn it into an exciting, challenging finale for players making their way across the grid.
On top of the Outlands, I also provided the initial greybox and level logic for half of Stronghold’s floors (Induction, Hangar, Landing Pad and Disposal), and was heavily involved in encounter population, mission logic and cleanup on River. Of course, with our small level design team I was generally involved in polish and bugfixing across the entire game.
